Shampoo bars may look like a bar of soap, but they are not the same. Shampoo bars differs greatly from both soap and shampoos in liquid form. They are made from different ingredients and therefore work differently. We at hey'Mo are crazy about shampoo bars. Not only do they offer an eco-friendly alternative to hair care, but they also offer a new life for your hair and scalp. In this blog, we aim to explain why this is the case and what makes a shampoo bar so unique.
What is a shampoo bar?
At its simplest, a shampoo bar is a shampoo in solid form. This means, that they do not contain any water. hey'Mo shampoo bars are also free from sulphates, parabens, silicones and palm oil. Otherwise, they wash hair in the same way as regular shampoo, but more gently and deeply. hey'Mo shampoo bars use naturally derived, environmentally friendly, gentle cleansing ingredients that are also used in children's shampoos. They also contain a range of natural oils and shea butter that soothe and protect the scalp without causing any build-ups.
Are shampoo bars different from soap bars?
Yes, and definitely yes! The scalp is naturally acidic (around 5.5), whereas soap bars are alkaline (pH above 7). Shampoo bars contain none of the harsh chemicals that make soaps alkaline. Shampoo bars usually have a pH between 5 and 7. hey'Mo Shampoo Bars have a pH of around 5, which is just right for your scalp.
How does the shampoo bar work?
In the same way as the liquid version. The shampoo bar is rubbed gently into wet hair with water to lather the cleansing and conditioning ingredients into action. hey'Mo shampoo bars deliver the cleansing power of mild Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate from coconut, which easily produces a soft, fluffy, even creamy lather. It effectively cleanses without drying the scalp and have a pH between 5 and 7. hey'Mo Shampoo Bars have a pH of around 5, which is just right for your scalp.
Who is a shampoo bar for?
For everyone. hey'Mo shampoo bar is suitable for baby to grandpa, treated and untreated hair. However, the shampoo bar should be selected according to your hair type. There are shampoo bars available for three hair types: normal, dry, and oily hair. Als all the hey'Mo shampoo bars have the same detergent base, the shampoo bars for dry and oily hair contain other different ingredients according to the needs of the hair and scalp.
Conditioner or conditioner bar
A conditioner bar is a solid version of a conditioner, on the same principle as a shampoo bar for shampoo. The conditioner bar may take more practice to handle, as it may not be as easy to emulsify into the hair as a shampoo bar. Bleached and treated hair also requires more conditioning and moisturizing. If the coindtioning effect of the conditioner bar doesn't feel like enough, a shampoo bar and liquid conditioner is also an excellent combination. In this case, the conditioner should be applied only to the crown, avoiding the roots of the hair.
Can shampoo bars be used with hair extensions?
The real hair used in hair extensions loves hey`Mo shampoo bars. Whether a shampoo bar is suitable for hair extensions depends on the technique used for hair extensions. Shampoo bar is an excellent washer and conditioner for stitched and clip-on extensions. For tape and seal extensions, the use of shampoo bar cannot be recommended as technique is not resistant to the usage of oil-containing products that shampoo bars contain.
Ecological for the planet
As shampoo bars are solid, they are made without water and plastic and can be packaged in recycled cardboard. One shampoo bar is the equivalent of three 350 ml liquid shampoo bottles, meaning that one shampoo bar can reduce the world's plastic load by the equivalent of three plastic bottles. One shampoo can wash your hair around 80 times, depending on the length of your hair.
